HAWB data extraction · in development

House Air Waybills, read as house bills — not forced into a master's mold.

AWBGuru is extending extraction to the House Air Waybill: the forwarder's own bill for one shipper's cargo inside a consolidation. HAWB data extraction will link every house record back to the master it travels under.

House extraction is being built now. Master Air Waybill extraction is live today, and house bills that arrive with your masters are already recognized and kept apart.

Why houses are different

Most house bills don't look like an air waybill at all.

A master follows the IATA air waybill face. A house is the forwarder's own document, and forwarders print it however they like.

Manifest layouts, not the IATA face

In the real house pages we reviewed, the standard IATA layout was the exception. Most were forwarder "air freight manifest" or "consolidation manifest" sheets, each with its own arrangement of columns.

One page, one house — or several

A single manifest page can carry one house shipment or list several side by side. Which one you're holding changes what the page is, so it has to be worked out before anything is read.

A leaner set of fields

House pages rarely print rates, charges, or declared value. Those turned up on fewer than one page in ten. Reading a house with the master's field set means chasing boxes that aren't there.

No check digit on the house number

A house number is assigned by the forwarder, so there's no IATA check digit to prove it was read correctly. The master reference printed on the house is what can be checked.

What will come back

The fields house bills actually carry.

Twelve fields — the ones that appeared on most of the 75 real single-house pages we analysed. Three of them (issuing forwarder, origin, flight date) are often left off the house page itself; when the master is already in your workspace, they are filled from it and marked as such.

Classification first

Know what the page is before reading a field.

Every document is classified before extraction starts, so a house bill isn't read as a master by default, and an invoice isn't read as an air waybill.

01

Split the file

A multi-page upload is split page by page.

02

Classify each one

MAWB, HAWB, consolidation manifest, commercial invoice, packing list, or other.

03

Count the houses

A manifest page with one house number is a house bill; two or more distinct house numbers make it a consolidation manifest.

04

Extract the house

A house bill will be read against the house field set, not the master's.

Same review model as masters

You'll read the exceptions, not the houses.

House fields will get the same treatment as master fields: each value will carry its own confidence score, freight rules will check what can be checked, and anything above your cutoff will clear without a click. Only the genuinely uncertain fields will reach a person.

Per-field confidence

Every house field will be scored on its own, with the same one-cutoff model you use for masters.

Validation where it applies

The master reference on a house will be checked with the same IATA check-digit rule as any master number, and airport codes, pieces, and weights will get their own sanity checks.

Linked to its master

Each house record carries the master AWB number it travels under. If that master is in your workspace, the house is linked to it: fields the house page doesn't print are filled from the master and tagged, a printed value is never overwritten, and a printed value that disagrees with the master is flagged. House records are planned to export as FHL, the IATA house message.

Exceptions-only review

A house whose master reference is missing or fails the check digit is flagged for a person. A master that simply isn't in your workspace yet is not an exception — the fields it would fill stay blank, and a reviewer can link the master when it arrives.

FAQ

HAWB extraction, answered.

Can I extract house bills today?

Not yet — dedicated house extraction is in development. Master Air Waybill extraction is live now, and when a house bill arrives alongside your masters it is already recognized as a house and set aside rather than misread as a master.

What happens with a manifest that lists several houses?

The page is classified as a consolidation manifest and set aside rather than read as a single house bill.

Can a house AWB number be validated?

Not by itself — house numbers are assigned by each forwarder and carry no IATA check digit. The master AWB number printed on the house can be, and house extraction will check it with the same MOD-7 rule used for masters.

Do I need a template for each forwarder's layout?

No. House extraction is being built without per-forwarder templates; each house will come back in the same record shape whatever its layout.
